Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The unemployment rate for the Rochester area has risen for a second straight month.

The latest state jobs report put the jobless rate for Olmsted County in January at 4.2-percent. That's 4-tenths of a percentage point higher than the rate reported for December and is the highest it has been since last September.

Winona County reported the lowest unemployment rate in the region for the first month of the year at 4.1 percent even though its jobless rate rose 6-tenths of a point from December. The highest unemployment rate in southeastern Minnesota in January was 5.2 percent, which was the rate reported in Fillmore, Dodge, and Wabasha counties. The biggest increase occurred in Fillmore County, where the jobless rate jumped 1.3 percentage points.

Statewide, Minnesota's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was down 2-tenths of a point in January at 4.5 percent.
