Stewartville, MN (KROC AM News) - There was a quiet ending to a tense situation in Stewartville Monday.

Olmsted County deputies were sent to a residence in the 300 block of 20 ½ St NW around 9:30 PM to check a report of a “person in crisis.”

Sheriff’s Office Capt. Scott Behrns says the initial report indicated a 29-year-old man who was agitated and suicidal had poured gasoline on himself.

When deputies arrived they found the man on the front porch. The man made comments about having an automatic rifle and then went back inside, warning the deputies not to follow.

Behrns says a crisis negotiating team was called and the man eventually calmed down. It was determined the man had not poured gasoline on himself and did not have a gun.

Behrns says the man apparently became upset due to “a disagreement with his significant other.” Behrns says the man has a history of mental illness issues and no charges will be filed.
