St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The daily COVID-19 death count reported by the Minnesota Department of Health includes six deaths in this region.

State health officials today reported 82 coronavirus related deaths statewide, which is Minnesota's third-highest single-day death toll of the pandemic. The list includes an Olmsted County resident in their early 70s. The report also includes two COVID-19 related deaths in Freeborn County, along with deaths involving residents of Goodhue, Wabasha, and Winona Counties.

Statewide, the health department reported just under 4600 new confirmed and probable infections, including 105 new cases in Olmsted County. The statewide testing total was nearly 35,000 for a daily testing positivity rate of around 13-percent.

The weekly COVID-19 activity update from the Olmsted County Public Health shows there was a modest increase in new infections reported last week. The total was 708, which was up 23 from the previous week. It was also the first weekly increase since the county reported 843 new infections during the first week in November.

Meanwhile, hospitalizations due to COVID-19 continue to decline. The state health department today reported there are currently 1187 Minnesotans hospitalized because of the viral illness. It is the first time that number has been under 1200 since November 14th. The number of those patients in intensive care units has been nearly steady at around 360 since last Friday.
