Chalk up another category in which Rochester has been rated better than many other cities: this time it's for working from home.

It was March of 2020 when Minnesota's Stay-At-Home was first issued, which specified that only those businesses deemed 'essential' could stay open, while employees at just about all other businesses were required asked to work from home, when at all possible.

But as we know, that's sometimes easier said than done-- especially if the city or municipality where you live is lacking some of the amenities needed to successfully work remotely. Luckily, though, a new survey has ranked Rochester as 'above average' when it comes to working from home.

The new report from RetailMeNot looked at various cities with populations of at least 100,00 across the country and compared them on various factors, including the cost of living, crime rates, weather, and how educated and how the relative health of their populations.

And, overall, the Rochester area ranked as 'above average,' for working from home, the report noted. Specifically, we scored a 'high' rating categories including community and safety, and health and weather. (Although, I'm a little curious about how we scored high in the weather category, given our sometimes dangerously cold winters here in Minnesota, but whatever...) We scored an 'average' rating on housing and living costs, which gave Rah-Rah-Rochester an overall score of 82.42 out of 100. That's not too bad, I guess.

It wasn't quite high enough to make the top 15, however. Shout-out to Gilbert, Arizona, which was ranked number one in the survey, by the way. Their 'health and wellness' score was a whopping 92.7, compared to Rochester's 80.5. (I guess our winters DID take a toll after all...) However, their overall score came in at 91.04, which isn't all that much higher than ours.

Now, maybe your current job won't allow you to take advantage of our above-average ranking and work from home.
