Rochester Public Schools May Be Changing Learning Models

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The learning models now in place in Rochester public schools may be changing in the near future.

The Rochester School Board is scheduled to vote on two recommendations at its Tuesday meeting.

Superintendent Michael Munoz is recommending changes at both the elementary and secondary levels.

• At the elementary level, Munoz is recommending the board approve a transition to full in-person instruction for Pre-K to Grade 5 on March 1.
• At the secondary level, he is recommending the district transition to a hybrid model for grades 6-12 beginning February 23.

Middle and high school students have been in a remote learning model since the pandemic began.

The school board earlier this month approved the resumption of a hybrid model for Pre-K - 2nd grade students but rejected a proposal to place 3rd - 5th graders in the model. The decision was made after board members expressed discomfort with that part of the recommendation because of COVID-related concerns.
