Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - It appears southeastern Minnesota remains in the bulls-eye for a freak late April winter storm.

The National Weather Service this afternoon posted a Winter Storm Warning for a large area of southeastern Minnesota, northeastern Iowa, and southwestern Wisconsin. Rochester and Olmsted County, along with Dodge, Steele, Freeborn, Fillmore, and the Houston Counties are included in the warning which will be in effect on Saturday from 7 AM until 7 PM.

Forecasters say the developing storm has the potential to produce a narrow band of heavy snow where the snowfall rates could be as high as 1-2 inches per hour. The snowfall totals in that narrow band could end up being in the 4-8 inch range. The heaviest snow is currently predicted to fall just south of the I-90 corridor but the National Weather Service cautions that could shift.

The storm is also expected to produce strong east winds that could gust as high as 40 miles an hour, raising the specter of possible power outages in a region where the electrical power grid sustained millions of dollars in damage from a late winter storm earlier this month.
