Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Most of southeast Minnesota was spared the brunt of the major winter storm that blasted across the state Wednesday.

Snowfall totals were generally in the 1 - 3 inch range but strong winds reduced visibility in some areas late Wednesday. Rochester’s official snowfall total was 1.3 inches.

The storm also ushered in the coldest air of the season after Rochester and other areas experienced a late fall-like day.

The temperature at the Rochester airport rose to a record 47 degrees at noon. The previous record high for Dec. 23rd was 43 set in 1936.

Temperatures plummeted during the afternoon and at midnight the temperature at the Rochester airport was just 5 degrees.

It will be blustery Thursday with highs only in the single digits and then rebound to 20 Friday and mid to upper 20s Saturday and Sunday.News update:  Record snow hits parts of Minnesota.
