Rochester Convenience Store Robbed at Gunpoint
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police are looking for a man who robbed a convenience store Monday afternoon.
Police Lieutenant Mike Sadauskis says the armed robbery was reported around 4:30 p.m. at the Apollo Shell Convenience Store at the corner of 11th Avenue and 4th Street Southeast. The female clerk on duty at the time reported that a man entered the store and attracted her attention because he was acting nervous and wearing a sweatshirt despite the warm weather. After the only other customer left the store, the man approached the counter with a bag of chips and a $5 bill but as soon as the clerk opened the cash register, he displayed a semi-automatic handgun and demanded she hand over the cash.
Lieutenant Sadauskis says the clerk responded by putting her hands in the air and backing away from the cash register, while the robber reacted by reaching over and grabbing the cash out of both cash registers at the checkout counter. He then fled on foot, heading north on 11th Avenue, with about $1000 in cash.
The robber was described as Hispanic, in his 20s, about 5 foot 1 heavy build, and wearing gray sweatpants and a black and yellow sweatshirt.
