St Paul (KROC AM News) - Rochester’s employment situation continues to recover from the sharp downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest report from the state shows there were 62,500 jobs in the city in June. That’s nearly 2,000 more than in April and May but still nearly 2,000 fewer than in March when the pandemic began to grow.

The number of Rochester workers listed as unemployed in June was 6200, about 900 fewer than in May. The April number was 4700 and the March figure was just 1700.

The city’s unemployment fell to 9-percent in June compared to 10.4-percent in May, the highest on record since 1990. It was only 2.5-percent in March.

Olmsted County’s situation is also improving.

The number of jobs in the county in June was 84,300, an increase of 2500 from May and April. The total was 87,000 in March.

The number of unemployed workers fell from 8900 in May to 7800 in June. It was 2400 in March. After reaching 9.8-percent in May, the county’s unemployment rate in June was 8.5-percent in June.  It was 2.7-percent in March.

Overall, Minnesota added 80,000 jobs in June. The number of unemployed fell from a record 303,000 in May to 267,500 in June. That is still nearly 200,000 more than in March.
