Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A senior member of the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is expressing concern about the release of a man who recently missed a court hearing involving an incident in Stewartville.

A deputy who knew there was a warrant for the apprehension of Collin Johnson spotted him near downtown Rochester Tuesday morning. The 39-year-old Rochester man took off running but he was apprehended and taken to jail.

He was later released and that concerns Sheriff’s Capt. Scott Behrns. He says he is concerned for the safety of the victims in the Stewartville incident, which involved an attempted burglary of a home in broad daylight.

A 15-year-old girl who was home alone called 911 after hearing someone trying to break into the attached garage. The girl’s father had called authorities earlier in the day to report a man had threatened to assault him with a sledgehammer. Deputies found a sledgehammer near the garage and later apprehended Johnson. They found he had two knives, a baseball bat, handcuffs, duct tape, and a boxcutter in his backpack.

Behrns says Johnson had been harassing the homeowner through social media.
