You may have noticed the beautiful frost covering Minnesota recently, but do you know what it's technically called? It's a natural phenomenon called rime frost.

You may have heard of hoarfrost before. It looks very similar to rime frost but there's one small difference. Only in Your State writes that hoarfrost only occurs when it's a bright day, rime frost only occurs when there's fog.

What happens is when it's cold enough and the fog rolls in the water droplets freeze to the trees, bushes, grass, virtually everything in its path and creates the beautiful rime frost.

We've been seeing fog and what we now know is called rime frost a decent amount in the area recently. But our neck of the woods is not where it's been accumulating the most. WCCO says that the Eagan area has been seeing some of the most rime frost recently. They spoke with a few people out for a hike at Lebanon Hills in Eagan recently about the rime frost. One person, Deb Mason, said, “'This ice on there, it’s just amazing, you don’t get to see it that often.'"

There is actually an Airbnb that you can stay in that would be beautiful when there's rime frost on the trees. It's a snowglobe/igloo Airbnb in Afton and it's so cool! Check it out below.
