St Paul (KROC AM News) - The streak of daily COVID-19 records has ended in Minnesota - but it’s nothing to cheer about.

The Minnesota Dept. of Health’s latest daily report on Covid activity in the state shows 4,647 new positive cases were reported on Friday. That broke the four-day streak of new daily cases - but it was still high enough to rank as the second-highest daily total to date. The all-time record is 5,454 - set the day before.

Minnesota’s running total of positive cases has grown to nearly 175,000. The latest report lists 34 new Covid-related deaths, increasing Minnesota’s overall total to 2,625.

Olmsted County recorded its fourth 100-plus day of positive cases in the past week with 102 on Friday. Its total is 4,146.

The recent surge of Covid activity in Minnesota has led to related restrictions in some cities and at health care facilities.

Mayo Clinic will ban most visitors at its Rochester hospitals, beginning Monday.
