Minneapolis Police Clash With Floyd Protesters
Minneapolis (KROC AM News) - Hundreds of protesters gathered Tuesday afternoon in Minneapolis near where a man died while in police custody.
The crowd grew in size over the next few hours and many of the protesters made their way to a police precinct. Numerous media outlets are reporting that’s when some of those in the crowd began damaging the building and squad cars. ABC News reports police used chemical irritants to break up the crowd. There is no word on any arrests.
The four Minneapolis police officers involved in the incident have been fired and could wind up facing prosecution.
One of the four kept his knee on the neck of a black man who had been arrested and handcuffed over a forgery incident Monday night for several minutes. The incident was recorded by a bystander and in the video, the man - identified as George Floyd - eventually went limp and was later pronounced dead.
Protests over Floyd’s death include charges of racism as the officer who was kneeling on him is white.
