Hastings, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Twin Cities man has admitted to second-degree intentional murder charges connected the deaths of two people in a hit and run last year.

Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom says 37-year-old Jonna Armartey admitted intentionally running over 58-year-old Diane Peterson and 74-year-old Roger Peterson while they were out for a walk in Eagan the night of June 28, 2018. Witnesses reported the couple was struck by a white minivan, which was located and a parking lot less than a mile from the crime scene. The vehicle had significant front end damage and a cell phone from one of the victims was found wedged under a windshield wiper.

Following his arrest, Armartey told investigators that he saw the man and woman walking and they "freaked him out" so he ran them over again "going fast and hit them hard." He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 11th.
