Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It will cost more to park at metered spaces in Rochester next week.

And some of the increases will be noticeable.

The higher hourly rates at city meters will take effect Tuesday, a year later than originally planned. They were put on hold last year due to the pandemic.

Here are the changes:

  • 10-hour meters will change from $0.40 to $0.50 per hour
  • 3-hour meters will change from $1.20 to $1.50 per hour
  • 2-hour meters will go from $1.40 to $2.50 per hour
  • 90-minute meters will go from $1.20 to $2 per hour
  • 30-minute meters will go from $1.40 to $1.50 per hour.

The city says it will take about a month to reprogram its 1200 meters to reflect the changes.

The City’s mobile payment service, ParkMobile, is expanding the convenient contactless ways customers can pay for meter parking including Google Pay and a new web app.

To make a parking payment using Google, a user can either open the Google Pay app directly or tap the “pay for parking” button from driving navigation in Google Maps. In the Google Pay app, the user enters the parking zone number, adds time, and finishes the payment with any credit or debit card saved to their Google Pay account.

In addition, a new web app designed for mobile devices lets users pay for meter parking without installing the full-featured mobile app. The web app can be accessed quickly by texting “PARK” to 77223 or by scanning a QR code. This method also allows for guest purchases, which means account registration is no longer a requirement to pay for parking.

The new ParkMobile contactless payment features are currently available, but may require updating Google Maps and Google Pay on your mobile device.

The city says its parking program “supports city core businesses by providing adequate parking to meet both long- and short-term parking demand form visitors, commuters, and people who want to shop, dine, or do business in Rochester’s central business district.”
