Another busy stretch of Highway-52 north of Rochester is set to be closed later this week.

If your travels take you along a well-known stretch of Highway-52 north of Rochester, you might want to give yourself some extra time-- especially if you'll be traveling Tuesday evening.

That's because a stretch of southbound Highway-52, north of Zumbrota, will be closed as crews continue to work on building a new Highway-60 bridge later this week. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) said earlier this month that the closure is set to take place from 7 pm until 5 am on Tuesday, September 21st.

The southbound lanes need to be closed so crews can install beams on the west side of the new Highway-60 bridge. The northbound lanes won't be affected during this closure, seeing as they were already closed back on September 8th, when crews placed new beams on the east side of the highway. (Which you've no doubt seen if you've driven along that stretch of Highway-52.)

Seeing as there aren't too many other routes that will take you back to Rochester if you're headed north, say, to the Twin Cities, so MnDOT has provided the following detour, which will be in place while those northbound lanes are closed:

Sorthbound Hwy 52 motorists will utilize exit/entrance ramps at the Hwy 60 West bridge work zone in Zumbrota. Nouthbound Hwy 52 will remain open.

5th Street access to and from Hwy 52 southbound ramps at Hwy 60 West bridge will be closed during this timeframe and should use the ramps at Hwy 58 in Zumbrota.

That new nearly 70-million dollar Highway-60 bridge is all part of that massive two-year project that will improve parts of Highway-52 between Zumbrota and Cannon Falls, which is expected to be done in 2023.

And here in Minnesota, something you see just about as often orange road construction barrels, are water towers. But I'm guessing you haven't seen some that are as unique as these water towers! Keep scrolling to check them out!
