St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The number of new COVID-19 cases reported in Minnesota today was the second highest single-day total since the beginning of the pandemic but the state's positivity rate only rose by about half a percentage point.

The Minnesota Department of Health says the just under 15,000 tests completed yesterday identified 867 new COVID-19 infections. The positivity rate from the tests was about 5.7-percent. 39 of the new cases were found in Olmsted County, where Public Health officials indicated they were waiting for more detailed information from the state concerning those cases. A spokesperson noted it is possible some of the infections reported today were from delayed testing results.

State officials reported seven additional coronavirus related deaths today and a modest increase in hospitalizations. There are currently 319 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 with 153 of those patients in intensive care. The overall number of people hospitalized is up 14 from Wednesday while the ICU count increased by one.
