St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The number of new COVID-19 infections reported in Olmsted County on Saturday was believed to be the highest single-day total since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Minnesota Department of Health's daily COVID update shows 65 new cases were found in Olmsted County on Friday when the statewide total for new confirmed and probable infections exceeded 3000 for a second straight day. The 3021 new cases were identified by the approximately 34,000 tests completed on Friday for a positivity rate of just under 9-percent.

20 additional coronavirus-related deaths were reported Saturday, including the 19th COVID-19 death involving a resident of Mower County. 129 COVID deaths were reported in Minnesota over the past week, which was the highest weekly death toll in the state since the first week of June. Minnesota's deadliest week of the pandemic occurred in late May when 174 deaths were reported between May 24th and May 30th.
