Application Period for Rochester Interim Supt. Opens on Friday

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester School Board hopes to hire an interim superintendent by the end of May.

Members of the School Board met yesterday with a representative of the Minnesota School Board Association, which has been contracted by the Rochester School District to assist with the selection process to temporarily fill the leadership after the resignation of Superintendent Michael Munoz takes effect at the end of June. The study session was used to establish a timeline for making the decision.

The first step will be a survey of the community to gather public input on the qualities and qualifications wanted for the person selected for the interim appointment. That is scheduled to take place from April 2nd through the 12th. The School District will also begin accepting applications from candidates on April 2nd with the deadline for applying on April 26th.

The School Board will then be asked to select 3 or 4 finalists at a meeting in early May before those finalists are brought in for interviews on May 11th and possibly the 13th if additional time is needed. That would be followed by the selection of a top finalist, who would be asked to negotiate an employment contract that would be brought back for approval by the School Board at its May 18th meeting.

The interim superintendent, who is expected to serve in the position for one year while the School Board searches for a permanent replacement for Munoz, would report for work on July 1st. The person hired for the interim role will have the option of also applying to serve as the long-term superintendent.
