Albert Lea Residents Might be Zooming Around on Electric Scooters Soon

There are a few cities in Minnesota that have electric scooters. I know the Twin Cities and Rochester, Minnesota have electric scooters, and Albert Lea, Minnesota might be added to that list soon!

I've never tried out an electric scooter but they look like a really fun way to get around town. At first, these scooters were only available in larger cities but are slowly getting into smaller cities now, like Mason City, IA. They could be getting electric scooters through Bird by next week.

Mason City City Administrator Aaron Burnett spoke with ABC 6 News about their new electric scooters. He said this will help attract young professionals to their downtown area. Aaron said if they want to build the downtown area these young professionals need ways to get around town if they don't have a car. He told ABC 6 News, "'It’s important that we continue to embrace that if we want to stay attractive for that young workforce and for people to stay within our community, then we need to provide those amenities.'”

Albert Lea seems to be close to finalizing an agreement to get electric scooters in town. ABC 6 News reports that the agreement might be approved at the next city council meeting.
