Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester area is included in an Air Quality Alert that will be in effect for much of the weekend.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says southerly winds are bringing higher levels of fine particulates into the region and the Air Quality Index is forecast to reach the range that is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. That includes children and older adults, along with people with heart disease, high blood pressure, or respiratory conditions. It also encompasses anyone doing extended heavy, physical activity outdoors.

The alert covers southeastern and east-central Minnesota until noon on Sunday. State officials say an approaching storm system that is predicted to bring in one to three inches of snow to the southeastern corner of the state on Sunday is also forecast to improve the air quality in the region.
