Second Tornado Confirmed in Wabasha County
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) – The National Weather Service has confirmed the severe storms that hit the region Wednesday produced two tornadoes.
Both were rated as EF0 twisters and hit communities in Wabasha County. The first struck Plainview around 4:30 p.m. and was on the ground for a little over a half a mile. It’s believed the tornado was to blame for roof damage on a commercial building and the uprooting of numerous trees.
The second tornado occurred when a second line of severe storms roared across the region in the evening. The National Weather Service says the weak EF0 twister was on the ground in Elgin for less than a quarter-mile at about 7:35 p.m. and caused some damage to trees and roof shingles. There were no injuries associated with either tornado.
The same storm system produced straight-line winds in Rochester that were about as strong as those produced by the twisters. The 65 to 70 mile-per-hour gusts downed trees and resulted in scattered power outages in the city.
