Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It could be a first for Rochester and we should find out in two months.

The Rochester City Council Wednesday gave staff permission to seek proposals for a project that would be constructed on TOP of a new parking ramp. That is something that’s never be done in the city.

The city ramp is being built as part of the North Broadway Hilton Hotel project now under construction. The council earlier approved spending extra money to bulk up the ramp so it could accommodate a housing and/or office building. The extra strong footings will allow a building of up to ten stories of residential construction.

Staff wants proposals to be submitted by September. The tentative schedule would have a contract awarded in December. Several council members would prefer a residential project at the site.

Also at its Wednesday meeting, the council accepted a recommendation to interview three finalists for the city’s vacant administrator’s position. The three candidates will be invited to visit the city next Thursday and be interviewed the next day.
