Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The National Weather Service has added the Rochester area to the winter storm warning issued earlier for much of northern Iowa and sections of south-central and southwestern Minnesota. The predicted track of the storm system has apparently shifted further to the north, prompting forecasters to add Olmsted, Dodge, Fillmore, Houston, Steele and Waseca Counties to the warning area.

The updated forecast for the Rochester area now predicts the snowfall totals will be in the 4-8 inch range by Saturday morning when the warning is set to expire at 6 AM. It appears the heaviest snow could arrive this afternoon.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says its snow plow crews are ready to respond, but motorists should be prepared to encounter slick conditions as the storm system moves through the region today and tonight.
